A successful Angioplasty procedure was performed on Mr. S. H. M. Dehlvi (15th) on 18 Jun 2004 in Houston. He is recovering well from this major procedure. Two of his blood vessels were cleared of nearly 80% obstruction. This was the second procedure done on him in ten months. On 15 Aug 2003, three of his blood vessels were cleared of 90% obstructions. In Chittagong. Serving “Western Marine Services” as its Executive Director. Before this, he was the Founding Principal of MAS Maritime Academy that had been founded in September 2006. Following service at sea in BSC ships (1980-93), Engr. Sajid served Marine Academy, Chittagong initially as an Engineer Instructor (1993-95) and then as the Chief Engineer (1995 – 2005). He is the longest served Chief Engineer (10 years) of the Academy. He had been suspended from his service (Chief Engineer, Marine Academy) in Oct 2003 for publication of his book ‘Ekattorer Prometheus’. Anyway, he could continue the service upon a stay order from High Court. But due to adverse, humiliating and unavoidable circumstances he had to resign ultimately and left the Academy in July 2005. At the same time his wife also had to resign from the post of Head Mistress (1993-2005) of the Marine Academy KG School. Leaving the Academy in August 2005, he served the A K Ship Management and Services (Pvt) Ltd, Chittagong as its General Manager (Technical) & DPA/CSO untill August 2006.
He did MSc in Maritime Safety Administration (Marine Engineering) from World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden, under ITF Fellowship in December 1998. He is a Maritime Expert/Consultant of IMO & GlobalMET, Council Member of the IMarEST International HQ – London and the Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST Bangladesh Branch [IMarEST – Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology].
Among his distinctive contributions to the Marine Academy are:
1. Leading role in formulation and preparation of the Quality Manual (ISO 9001) for the Marine Academy in line with the STCW95 Convention.
2. Leading role in preparation of the new syllabus and curriculum of the marine engineering discipline in line with the STCW95 Convention.
3. Arrangement of two IMO-Bangladesh Joint Programme in the Academy in 2001 & in 2004.
4. Transforming the TWO years BMS Degree course under the National University into THREE years one; however without changing the existing training structure i.e. Cadets pass-out after 2 years and the 1st year at sea is the 3rd year of the BMS course.
5. His last few years passed in initiating the enhancement of the Academy into a Maritime University in accordance with his MSc thesis (dissertation) titled ‘A proposal for establishment of a Maritime University in Bangladesh’.
Engr. Sajid is an amateur writer in the areas of shipping, sealife, IT, science and technology and science fiction stories for various leading journals of Bangladesh. His publications include 7 books 16 research & technical papers, and over 200 features. Two of his research papers have been qualified and posted in the IMarEST website.
