A general meeting was held at CPA rest house on the 8 May 2002 at 1700 hrs. under the chairmanship of Capt. M. Helaluddin (Commandant, Marine Academy), Convener of Ruby Jubilee 2002.
A good number of ex-cadets and Mr. A. K. M. Nurul Amin, Ex-CEO, were present to discuss various points raised by sub-committees abroad and members present in the meeting. The following decisions were taken:
1) The firm dates were refixed for holding the Ruby Jubilee considering Marine Academy passing-out ceremony and also a request from Singapore Sub-committee, from 25 December 2002 afternoon to 27 December 2002 morning (after breakfast). Detailed programme will be communicated in due course.
2) It was decided to include non-academy merchant marine officers to register on payment of same amount as ex-Marine Academy cadets. Personal guests also may be invited upon payment and a few officials including ex-Academy Instructors will be invited as official guests.
Two committees were formed i.e. Souvenir Committee and Donation Collection Committee to raise fund for:
i) Celebration of Ruby Jubilee.
ii) Upgrading training facilities i.e. purchase of books, computers,
equipment and other matters. It may be mentioned here that Marine Academy has not been receiving any Government budget/foreign aid for a long time for above items.
A committee will be formed during Ruby Jubilee for proper utilization of the fund.
Souvenir committee: Engr Sajid Hussain, Capt K Mohiuddin, Engr Arifur Rahman
Donation Collection Committee:
Chittagong Committee: Capt Quamrul Hussain, Capt M Habibur Rahman, Engr Sakhawat Hussain and Mr Sheikh Ali Ambia, Shipping Master (ex-Academy Instructor)
Dhaka Committee: Engr Motiur Rahman and Capt Shawkat Ali Sardar Overseas Committee- Conveners of the respective regions/countries
3) Registration for joining Ruby Jubilee is kept open to all Merchant Marine Officers. The registration date for Ruby jubilee has been extended up to 31 July 2002.
There being no other matter to discuss, the meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chair. The convener thanked all those who were present and requested them to make Ruby Jubilee 2002 a success.
