Subject: Re: Juldia Ruby

Dear Sajid

I was quite busy for the last last few days

I hope you get this mail by 2 PM Bangladesh time today.

We have some informal chat with many Juldians. Firstly please we should come out with a suitable title to this event as we go world wide to reach Juldians and we could decide to take out newspaper supplement too. Juldia-Challish, Juldia Ruby has no Bangla touch.

We suggest you have the function from 10 to 12 Dec. Avoid any Friday as Jummah prayers will take 2 Hrs and daylight available is only 8 hrs. Or 14,15 & 16. Logistics - transport on 16th may be limited due Bijoy Dibas function. To go to Juldia, we need efficient transport. 23 to 25 Dec can also be a last resort but it will be colder. Exposing foreign kids too long in cold will worry parents, my perception only.

The function should commence with dinner & cultural show on first day PM. If we book in Agrabad, at noon we can have some technical sessions from 1400 to 1700. ( Acadaemy Development, Training, Safety at sea and river in & outside Chitt, helping in educational expenses of children/support for families of those we lost, organising Annaul Juldia Lectures by one international figure from overseas in Dec each year or as and when very senior ex-Juldian go on vacation and finally, assisting cadets to get jobs etc. Networking among Juldians.

Second day at Juldia taking/making pledge to help each other regardless of senior or juniors/to make Juldia a world class Academy, special prayer for those we lost. This should be at Parade Ground. Mark 37 or 38 circles one for each batch. My apologies if I do not know the last passing out batch number. Alternatively Singapore Party, UK Party, American Party, Australia Party etc. Of course B'desh party would push out all parties.Touring all around, Berbecue in the evening. Role play/Skit/Acting by each batch how the seniors/instructors treated them, best and worst day at Juldia etc, any other memorable incident. This should be a competition with attractive prizes. Third day at Chiit for picnic games and cultural items by mariners and their family members ( from deshe bideshe ) and till we meet again. If 16th Dec in Chitt is last day, then we get friends and relatives of Juldians too. To make this once in a life time get-together for many we must get most out of these three days. Ensure variety of programs for ladies and children too as they will outnumber us.

Pls note that these are proposals only. People may have other better ideas too.

No objection to include Non Juldians mariners.

Please prepare a list of sponsors and inform them early to get their support.

Fund Raising - Definitely Juldians would like to know what is the fund for? We have to make it fully trsnspsrent and accountability. First you must have a Trust Fund to be managed by high level personnel who would ensure that fund is used only for purposes to be agreed in Dec 2002. Annual scrutiny and audit by volunteer auditors. Mariners have become good ISM auditors since ISM has been introduced. There are many avenues for using funds for helping Academy and needy people. At the end of the day people will come back in 5 years and definitely in 10 years to see the results. If all can see something concrete I see we may target afew Million Taka in a few hours.

Pls consider Publication sub committee. No problem to get contribution. To ensure that all matters are taken care of, pls give a report on action plans and implementation at the end of each two months say June, Aug and Oct.

We will provide further inputs in two weeks time.

Sorr for my grammar and spelling as I am sending from my offfice. wishing you all the best in planning and preparations.

Pls feel free to change.

From Capt Zahurul Alam's email...

QUOTE
One important thing is that we do this ceremony on 10 or 16 Dec as many will be free after Eid. Also all schools and work start full swing from 2 Jan in many countries. Or you do on 25th Dec so that we get friends and relatiives to join too. To make it a success we must publicise aggressively. See our last year proposals. First, the date is very very
important.

People have to plan a lot in advance as all want to go on leave in Dec. Then you think of engaging an Event Consultant. You have such people oin B,desh who organise Cadet College celebrations, anniversary celebration etc.
