The minutes of the meeting

The meeting was held on 9th July at the CPA Rest House from 1630 hrs. to 1800 hrs. 11 persons (members of the central committee) attended (list attached). Capt. M. Helaluddin, Commandant, Marine Academy presided over the meeting. He expressed, at beginning on welcoming, his satisfaction by observing the spontaneous presence of most of the members in the meeting.

He mentioned that the Convener expressed his inability to join in the meeting. Mentioning the delay for last three months, Capt. Helaluddin requested all to express their own opinion/feelings of the proposed programme of the RUBY Jubilee. Almost all the members remarked that the time remaining is very short and it would be impractical to make arrangement of such a massive programme as scheduled (30 December 2001 – 1 Jan 2002). Hence, few members remarked that whether to go for a shortened programme like ONE day only. However, others said that for the sake of the desire of all the enthusiastic ex-Cadets (and their family members), the status of the Academy and excellence of the ex-Cadets’ present positions the ceremony should take place in a very exciting manner. Therefore, its duration should, ideally, be of two days. It is discussed that particularly ‘collection of necessary fund’ will take a long period with constant effort. The inauguration day of the Academy is 3rd Sept 1962. Therefore, the 40 years will be completed on 3rd Sept 2002. Most of the members commented that the Academy (Commandant, Instructors, Officers and staff) should take lead-role and all others (ex-Cadets and related personnel) will assist in all possible way. Therefore the present committee needs to be reorganised. Almost all expressed that it would not be practicable to depend on the registration fees (Taka 1500/1000) from the ex-Cadets. Donations from different levels will have to be arranged and fund-generating steps need to be taken. Without hole-hearted support from the ex-Cadets and the overseas sub-committees our massive programme of RUBY Jubilee will be almost impossible. Due emphasis was also given to form the Marine Academy Ex-Cadets Association, Bangladesh (MAEXCAB) to actively assist in the RUBY Jubilee.

In light of the above discussion, the following decisions have been taken unanimously:

1. The RUBY Jubilee (2 day long) will be held in December 2002 instead of December 2001.
2. The existing committee will be reorganised; new committee structure will be presented in the next meeting that will be held sometime in August 2001.
3. A special fund raising committee will be formed and collection will commence from August 2001.
4. Our expatriate ex-Cadets, having high-level positions, are expected to give generous support for the celebration. The overseas sub-committees may take necessary initiative in this regard.
5. Capt. Intekhab (13th) will take necessary steps to form an Association of the Ex-cadets i.e. Marine Academy Ex-Cadets Association, Bangladesh (MAEXCAB) as soon as possible. This association will perform as the 'executive committee' for the celebration; while the Academy committee will act as the 'central hosting committee'.

At the end Capt. M. Helaluddin thanks the CPA for providing a suitable venue. He, once again, thanked the assembled members of the central committee and called it a day.
