NYK Shipmanagement opens its operations in Bangladesh

NYK SHIPMANAGEMENT PTE LTD, SINGAPORE (NYKSM) is the first ever shipping company to open its recruiting office to employ Bangladeshi seafarers directly. This is a unique opportunity for Bangladeshi seafarers  to be employed by the owners directly from Bangladesh.. NYKSM, Singapore, is the ship management wing of NYK Line, Tokyo, one of the leading shipping company in the world with over 740 ocean going vessels under its operations. By 2010 the fleet will have 900 ships.

NYKSM, Singapore currently manages 160 vessels. The fleet is comprised of Containers, PCCs, VLCCs, Product tankers, LPGs, LNGs and Bulk carriers. The company plans to employ substantial number of seafarers (all ranks) from Bangladesh in coming years to man its ever expanding fleet.

With the introduction of NYKSM’s own office in Bangladesh, a new dimension of maritime manpower in Bangladesh has begun. So far the Bangladeshi seafarers have been traditionally employed through the third party agents. Now they have the unique opportunity to be directly employed by the ship owners themselves. This will definitely encourage the other ship owners to follow suit in near future.

The company launched its operations on the 5th November 07 through an inaugural ceremony at a local hotel in Dhaka. A two-member delegate from the company’s head office in Singapore visited Bangladesh on the occasion. (pls ref photo of the inaugural ceremony).

Capt. SMA Sufian Mahmood (17th Batch), an employee of NYKSM, has been appointed as the Representative of the Company in Bangladesh to administrate and monitor its smooth operations. NYK Line Bangladesh Limited has been entrusted with the processing job of manning office.

Address of NYKSM, Bangladesh office:

Have you recently attended a COC course and exam? Request your help!
I often receive requests for guidance about  Certificate of Competency course and exams from Cadets and Junior Officers mainly trying to manage their first exams . Most of the time I fail to help my younger brothers with any good advice or directions. I am sure path towards certifications now are much more complicated and diversified. I was wondering if YOU could help our brothers with some info and directions. If you can manage some time, please write- up a guide for COC courses and exams. I will try to arrange your write-ups as organised as possible. Please give this a try!!  Thank you for your time.  Capt. Abdullah  E-mail: smabdullah@yahoo.com

Running four to six months delayed in updating or adding profiles: excuses
Due to some unavoidable personal reasons I am unable to keep up the website. My resources and requirements do not allow me to outsource the upkeep of this website.  Please accept my apologies for the long delay in updating or adding profiles in this website. I receive lots of abusive e-mail for this website. As expected recently receiving  a lots of frustrated e-mail from mariners about the long delays in updating or adding new profiles. Interesting one is "........I do not understand what the problem with my profile. May be you do not find me fit to publish my profile in your web site............". Most of the mariners are very very patient and accommodating. Very few are furious about my inability to keep the site updated. I am doing as much and as fast as I can. Hoping to get the site up-to-date within next few months. Once again please accept my honest apologies for the delay.
