Subject: got your message from Inam

Dear Qamru bhai and Apu,

Its a long time since I received your address and the beautiful pictures of the party. So how are you all. I am having a busy time at the plant now. All our engines are in the process of getting converted for operation on natural gas and commissioning of the gas compressors are ongoing. These compressors will boost up the pressure of the gas from 25 bar to 350 bar for direct injection into the cylinders. A little amount of HFO(5% of full load requirement) will be injected prior to gas injection which will ignite the gas when injected. This will be the biggest power plant in the world running in this principle if successful. Already one engine was successfully converted.

Anyway, we are all fine here. The young one is still very fragile due to repeated attack of cold, stomach upset and fever. He is, like the elder one, does not like to take any extra food. Feeding both of them is like having a battle. We cannot figure out what really will attract them to have food. If you have any idea please do let us know.

Tapu and his family is coming on 11 th March and my in-laws shall be coming on 25th after performing Hajj. As planned earlier is Apu coming during the summer Olympic? Our telephone number is now 8911390 (instead of 891390). Joydul bhai is still sailing and shall be coming home on 27th of this month. There was a new years party in Capt. Shamsuzzaman bhai's house but I could not attend due to Y2K contingency plan of the plant. Lot of mariners and his college friends attended. Our Mafizur Rahman recently visited Bangladesh and we had a get together in Inam's place.

No more today. My salam to you both and love to the bhaginas.

Alamgir.

I just can't believe it! Is it true that he is not among us any more? Open your eyes again, he is there around us - the smiling face. I remember the long and successful voyage on BANGLAR KALLOL with Alamgir as the C/E in 1985-86 - as if it was only yesterday! My heart goes to the family of Alamgir and may Allah give them the strength to bear the shock and the trauma they are undergoing.  On receiving the Bangladesh Mariners website address from one of my friends only today, I opened the page with great enthusiasm, just to get the shock of my life.

I am stunned knowing about Alamgir's death. Its been a long time since we had seen other but still reminds me little Alamgir,s face -- just like it is the other day. Sometimes it is very hard for anyone to accept the reality but, again, we do have to agree with this irrational fact. My deepest condolences for the demise soul and utmost sympathy for the family.

It is really very shocking news.  Around mid April Captain E.Z. Baig (16th) called me on phone, but he was not sure and he asked me to verify.  Both of us could not believe.  I worked with Mr. Alamgir on m.v. Dacca as Deck Cadet in 1989.  I can remember he came to the ship after his engagement with his wife.  I am praying to god for his departed soul.  May god keep him in peace in the heaven.

Its very sad to hear two sudden news among our community and two good people are no more with us. Time is very difficult. Let us pray to Allah for their peace. Allah's tests are  tough let us also pray that He gives the strength to the family members and friends and all of us so that we can endure it. Both of them are very good person, all of us are witness. Allah takes care for good people, specially when all other people praise him and pray for him.

In the light of Alamgir sir's death, we should consider regular check up of our own health.    Someone has already suggested this. Please do so.

Also, in the light of both deaths, I would like to ask this question to myself and to all of  us: "Are we ready ourselves, if this happens to us?" Are we ready materially? or  spiritually? I read somewhere: when a person dies, the company hires a replacement the next  week or so but the parents cannot get back their son, neither the wife nor the children.  Maybe we should consider something for them.

Okay, but how about for our own life-after-the-death. Are we ready to face Allah? Ask  yourself, "Am I ready? What do I need to do to get ready?" My own personal answer and list: "Pray, ask for forgiveness from Allah for all my sins, say Thanks to Allah for all the  things, be good to all people and say thanks to them and help people if possible".  Please consider it.

We got the shocking news last Friday, the 7th April. We are shell-shocked. It is hard to  imagine that we would not see him any more. Our acquaintance goes to October 1977 when we joined academy. We have so many fond memories. Whenever we try to imagine his image, his smiling face comes striking as well as his tough guy performance in the football field. He looked so fit and lively.

It only reminds us all of the finiteness of life. We all pray to Almighty Allah for Eternal  Peace of the departed soul. May Allah give strength to his family so that they can face this unexpected tragedy with courage.

I am deeply shocked to hear the news of Alamgir Bhai's sudden death after coming back from a sea voyage. I have passed so many wonderful days with him at sea. I dont have any language to express my emotions. The feeling is nothing less than loss of my own brother. Lets all pray for his departed soul.

I learnt it on the day while I was on an overseas trip. Upon coming back here I read the  expressions made by some of us. And I want to add something - Alamgir Bhai was not our batchmate but more than that to many of 14th batch boys and perhaps so was to someone from 12th / 15th Batch and so on.

We express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family on demise of their beloved one. May Almighty Allah bless him eternal peace and grant the family  strength to overcome bereavement.

May Allah the Almighty rest his soul in peace and give his family and friends the courage to bear this loss. About 30 mariners attended the milad.  Among others, the milad was attended by Mr. Shahabuddin (2nd), Capt Johurul Alam (3rd), Mr. Jafrul Alam (7th) and it was led by Mr. Nurul Karim. Meherul (16th) and Iftekhar (12th) took the initiative to organize it.

When I got the news I did not believe! I phoned Bangladesh to confirm and then I was  speechless! The feeling was as if I have lost my own brother. I loved him so much that it was very hard for me to come to terms with the fact. I am still battling with my emotions to  accept the hard fact.

Alamgir was a person whom everybody liked regardless of batch or discipline. Whoever knew him, used to regard him as a polite, honest and intelligent person. His company was always desired and enjoyed by everybody. He may not be physically present in this world anymore, but his presence will always be felt around us as we can not forget him. We all pray for the peace of his soul. May Allah give his family the mental strength to go through this difficult phase of their life.

Its dificult to accept that Alamgir bhai is no more with us. I have just visited his house -  its really difficult to face his wife, mother ( who just lost her father on the same day of  Alamgir bhai's death )and other relations. I know him since 1977 from my very first day of  Academy life, since then always were very close but cant recollect a single day when I saw him with out smile on the face.

Lets pray for the departed soul and for the family so that Almighty gives the strength to  bear it.

The Chairman, General Secretary and members of the Nautical Institute, Bangladesh Branch learned with deep shock about the sudden and sad demise of our dear friend Mr. Alamgir,Chief Engineer (13th) at about 0730 hours on 6th April 2000 at his home (Innah ........ rajeun). I stopped calling Chief Engineer Mohammad Alamgir (13th) as "Sir" soon after leaving  Academy. He was my Alamgir bhai. He was always just right, smiling and taking care. He  was more prominent in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation than many of us who joined sea nearly together. His access to seniors was natural and to juniors, he was always welcome. In late eighties, I had gone to him many a times to get things moving in BSC office, as he could make himself listened by nearly all of his superiors in corporate hierarchy. I remember, at one stage, me and Capt. Shahidul (14th) started teasing him as "Power Broker" among BSC afloat officers. He used to laugh at our comments, never opposed heavily or agreed, that's natural for him on any issue. We were sure he will catch up and hang-on to the corporate ladder of BSC. But soon found out, we were wrong. He did not like it, could not match it. He was a man of bigger frame to suit that structure. As we all did and do, blame the profession, never heard him mentioning the way we all do.

In bad Junior Cadet days in Academy, we always liked him for his mild manner. I remember, once  was mentioning to my Main top peers, him as the best. One of us thought I was giving him  more than due. My peer said, "Its just relative, as there is no body  better than him....." My point was made.

Visiting one of my distant relation, a sister, in Chittagong, found out that Alamgir bhai's  family is related to my sister. Later, mentioning that to him was a joy to me. I will  cherish that moment. Its difficult even to think that the smiling face will not  smile at us again .............

The message came to me with a massive emotional blow and immediately my mind went back to 1986 when I got Alamgir bhai as my chief Engineer in Banglar Kallol. He was such an energetic person with full of life and vigor. Sometimes we compelled to believe the most  unexpected fact and we know we have to because it is true , and that is the hardest part. I do not know how to console the grieve family but only praying so Allah give them enough courage and strength to bear with this tragic incident.

May Allah bless the resting sole of Alamgir Bhai with ever lasting peace and tranquility.  Amin.

Here is a sad news. Mohammad Alamgir (13th) has passed away this morning the 6th July, 2000.    He has died of heart attack, all on a sudden just after having his breakfast. I never heard he had any problem of that sort. Only yesterday evening he felt some pain in the chest, which he did not take seriously. Today morning also he was all prepared to go to office , had his breakfast and then again the pain come back and by 9.00 hrs it all came to an end.  Please pray to almighty for the salvation of the departed soul.

Tomorrow his Namaze Janaza after Jumma prayer.
