Like Kanti, I am also becoming an introvert and hardly sociliazing these days. Hearing the shocking news in brief when I tried to find out more I could not readily get up to date contact numbers of anyone in Bangladesh. I desperately tried calling Rafiq in a number that was long changed. Finally managed to get through though!

Kanti was a person of virtue with an unparelleled pleasant smile on his face which no one close to him can ever forget I guess...

May Allah rest his departed soul in peace.

Had opportunity to sail with this excellent man on board Banglar Kallol. He was the 3rd Officer. Spent good time discussing so many things. Like most of us, he was always buying things for family members. Was surprised seeing he bought paint-brushes for one his close relative and was more surprised to know that those things are and were so expensive. Among all the memories, one of those came out sticking. We were in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He did not like the regulation which prevented him visiting Holy Makkah because of his religion. He wanted to visit the Holy land earnestly. In same port stay one afternoon he became very sick on a port holiday, probably it was a Friday. We were frantically trying to reach Port Health or someone by VHF without success. Kazi Mamun, can speak some Arabic, went down to the Jetty and talked with the security. Soon we had Ambulance and Kanti was taken to hospital and never met him again. He went through an operation and was flown back to Dhaka. After that received few postal mails from him, maybe talked with him couple of time also. Not in recent years. Never saw his matured face. Alas, never will. Praying and wishing him eternal peace. Also praying for the strength to his family to weather this loss.

I am deeply shocked by the news of Nihar Sir's sudden departure and praying for his departed soul.

I had sailed twice with Nihar Sir in Valles Steamship (Canada) Ltd and he had been reputed as a very gentleman, hardworking and professional mariner through out the Valles fleet. Unfortunately, I didn't have any contact with him since I have sailed in 'Navios Bulker' in 2002. If any one knows about his family contact details, please let me know as I am in Bangladesh and would like to condole the bereaved family members.

Dear All,

Salaam.
I talked to Nihar's brother 'Vaskar' yesterday and discussed with Sufian the needs he may face and supports we may collectively render while the body is coming to Bangladesh. Sufian will take necessary steps within his reach in this regard including talking to Mr. Salahuddin of Finley and the manning agent at Mumbai where Nihar signed his contract. Of course all mariners in Dhaka may be helpful in this case with their specific experience and expartise in this type of case. I believe Sufian has a very good hold in this level of people due to the nature of Job he is doing. Alamgir, Please coordinate with the people you feel appropriate. Detail of the manning agent should be available when you start acting on this matter.

Capt. Masoom Iqbal (17th)
I was @ work when I heard the news, shocked like you all. Probably was blanked for a while. In fact I was waiting to get reply from him for my email which I wrote on 25th night, during casual skype conversation with Saiful (17th). On hearing that he drooped a rare greeting mail to Saiful.
Litu, Kurshid, Nasim and I have had some sweet memories for Mymensingh trip for his marriage ceremony. Finally I managed to contact Boudi, talked to his younger brother, got following information:-
On 23rd about 1900hr SMT he was in gym doing exercise and crew found him lying down while tread mill was running and probably breathed his Last. His body is in Colombo now. Routine autopsy will be done tomorrow. His body will be flown back tentatively on next Monday.
His younger brother cell no: 01711166315 (Vasker).
May Allah keep us Healthy & sound till last breathe.
Warm Regards.

Dear Friends,
Thanks for sharing your feeling with details of Nihar's death.
I always thought he was in such a good form of health, but probably not........
I met him a long time back and had the opportunity to sail together in Jardines, in a Car carrier.
The same old health conscious Nihar and a bright Smiling face, as usual.....

Somehow he did not lately socialize in mails and hence got himself aloof, no known reason though.....

His death is yet another eye-opener for the rest of us to get ready for this.....
the Ultimate Destiny for each and all living being............
When I think about this, it's so frightening and I do not see myself at-all ready for this... quite yet.
If I am not ready at the age of 50...., wonder whether I will be ready at the age of 70 either..... (even if that much of time Allah will spare me).
A sad story of mine and ....a distinct/ clear sign of being a poor Muslim. What a waste of time, a life so precious I used to think at young age..............A point to ponder.....by many of us like me......

Let's pray for each other and dearly.... That's important.

Dear friends in Bangladesh, are you planning to meet Nihar's family, to be beside them at this difficult time and find out little bit more of their condition/ status, etc.
Do let us know, in the event in your judgement, there is something that would /could do collectively to express our gratitude to our friend.

N.B: Me, Jahangir, Taufiq, Nurul Islam and Saiful were together yesterday and except being sad to the news of his death, could not really focus much on common memories, as we seldom have chances to meet especially with those who keep them aloof, for no known reasons. Let us try and bring the hiding persons a-light, so that we are in touch at least and get to know the news directly and not from news papers.

We all are so helpless...
It is really very painful to hear such a sad news!!
Inna Lillahi Wainna Ilaihi Raziun...
Truely from Allah we came...
and to Him we belong..
From dust we came and to dust we return...
Dear friends, We all should try to surrender all our wills to Allah SWT...
May Allah SWT give us strength to overcome all sadness..

His smiling face will remain fresh in my memory for ever. He was a first class batchmate and a dear friend. Though we did not have many interactions but my heart is very heavy with sadness, I will miss him.

Capt. Md. Rafiqul Islam (17th), Chittaagong
Nihar I miss you. You were such a caring and a loving person. We had unforgettable memories in the academy as well as onboard MV Banglar Mita. We also shared the same room in South Shields during our Mate/Master preparation and you were so supportive to me in all respect. We passed a very

good time in Dhaka while both of us stayed there with our families. I cannot forget our friendship and your presence in my memories will always be there. Last May while both of us were in Bangladesh on leave, we had a long discussion about our families as well as our lifestyles and I found you had some definite attitude which I opposed. Now you are not there and I cannot argue about your views or agree with them. After coming back to Bangladesh, I called you over the phone last week and I learnt that you were not there and boudi could not tell me how many days it would take for you to come back home. Today suddenly I found from the newspaper that you are coming back to Bangladesh, but I never dreamt that your return will bring so much sorrow and so much grief to all of us. We all love you and miss you. Goodbye my friend. May the Almighty Allah rest your departed soul in peace in the heaven.

Ameen.

N.B. For those who wish to communicate with Nihar\'s family, you may call 091-53292(home)or 01552470587(Boudi).

It is very sad to hear the news of Kanti. I have seen him last about 2 years ago. He was looking like same what he was in 10 years back. Now he is is no more except his memories only.
We all have to go one day from this beautiful world. Do not think for this world but think about your journey plan /preparation for the next life.
