"Without Mr. Nurul Amin's strong disciplinary codes in the Academy, most of us could not be where we are today. Going back 17 years in time, I realised now, that we were actually children in the Academy, no matter how grown up we used to consider ourselves. Staying so far away from home and parents, we needed someone to guide us to the right path. And he was the right man for the job. He was our teacher, our guide and a friend. He will always stay as a hero in my heart." Captain Quamrul Siraz, UK, 29 Feb 2008
"It brings back a lot of memories. My condolence for both of them................" Mir Tehseen Ali Khan (4th), Loss Control, Toronto, Canada, 07 Dec 2007
"Words cannot provide solace to the bereaved family. But, this is the norm and the custom - so I do so. I pray to Allah to bless the departed souls. An excellent teacher and person he was. We owe him a lot." Ashraf Azwar, Brunei, 07 Nov 2006
".....if it were not for him the Marine Academy Chittagong
would not have been able to produce a great maritime community in Bangladesh
as it is today. Mr. Nurul Amin set an example for all for his principle,
dedication and ability as a teacher as well as a management executive. I pray
for his eternal journey, may God bless his soul and his family....."
Atiqur Rahman (26th), Dhaka, 04 July 2006

".....I should have called him........Few months ago I was
talking to Mohiuddin (Second son) at Singapore, he was busy relocating to
middle east. During our “Gal goppo” he gave me Mr. Amin’s mobile number and
requested me to call him. Nothing special, just he knows how happy his father
will become if some of his old students get in touch with him. I promised and
honestly thinking about calling him very soon. Now it’s too late. In my dream
I did not even thought this could happen so soon. I missed my chance to make
him little bit happy; after all apart from his siblings we are his only wealth
that used to make him proud. I strongly believe all the good feelings of his
wealth all around the world will not be unnoticed by the all mighty. During
our hard junior life many times I also had the chance of enjoying the motherly
affection and delicious cooking of Mrs. Amin. It was like heavenly blessing in
the life of a junior cadet in the academy. Memories of those few days are so
strong that it is impossible for me not to think about it now. Later I saw her
in few occasion, same simple and wonderful......"

"........Our great teacher “ Mr Nurul Amin” ......
Missing the days with him where he used to teach us at Marine Academy. I am
really shocked of hearing the death of our respected teacher. He had very
sharp memory of reminding the name of the cadet of any batch, & father’s name,
finding him after long time. But now….. it’s all over. His remembrance will be
with us so long we remain alive. He was very close to my father as we belong
to the same place. He was the teacher of my eldest brother in our village
school in late fifties. He was calm, polite and very sober to class of people.
He was very respected person in our area. He was a man of knowledge, and
principle. We are thankful to God that we had such great teacher and
most of all he was a man of honor. We pray for him & his wife from the bottom

CONDOLENCE
May 05, 2006
In memory of Mr. A K M Nurul Amin Ex-Chief Education
Officer, Marine Academy and Mrs. Amin
We all hereby acknowledge the departure of the excellent soul of our beloved
teacher and guardian Mr. A K M Nurul Amin and his soul-mate almost together on
30th and 29th April 2006 respectively. It may be mentioned with honour and
pride that Mr. Amin had dedicated his life for the development of the Marine
Academy and the Cadets. Since before the establishment and commencement of the
Marine Academy on 3rd September 1962, throughout his long 34 years of service
there in educating and training the Cadets, he had been found to be sincere,
hardworking and disciplined. He was pious, polite and honest in his personal
life. Thus he could raise himself into an apex figure and a leverage point of
the maritime educational sector of Bangladesh. Therefore, his remarkable
contribution to the Marine Academy and so to the economy of Bangladesh is
exclusive and exceptional.
He could establish a balanced affection for all his dearest pupils and with
time he became an ideal friend, philosopher and guide for all of the Cadets.
On the other hand, Mrs. Amin, the blessed and appropriate life-partner of Mr.
Amin, was a perfect inner wheel and through forwarding his soft-corners and
warmth caring, could become the mother-teacher for all the Cadets. They have
had been blessed with four sons and one daughter whom they raised remarkably.
All of them and their spouses are established duly in their individual fields.
We express our deep gratitude with pride for the departed souls. With tear in
our eyes we acknowledge their successful appearance in this earth, working for
the Marine Academy and returning back to almighty Allah. We, hereby, also pray
to Allah, subhana-taalah, for resting them in peace and award Jannatul Ferdous
in the life hereafter.
On behalf of the Alumni Association,

"...........Inna lillah e wa inna allayhey raijeyoon........It
is indeed a very sad news that Mr. Nurul Amin (and Mrs. Nurul Amin) passed
away so suddenly. May Allah bless their souls and grant them Jannat. Mr. Nurul
Amin was well liked by all cadets due to his character and fairness towards
all of us. Especially during the turbulent times of our 7th batch's final year
(1970) It was his tireless efforts which saw a first class hockey team from
Juldia, not to mention other sports. I was very pleased to learn about him
becoming the CEO later on, although I did not have the chance to re visit my
old Academy and meet the staff and cadets there after passing out, but the
Academy always did and still very much lives very close to my heart and
suffice to say it is indeed a very big loss for all of us to loose Mr. Nurul
Amin. Please pass my heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and
friends. With fondest of memories and kind regards..................."
Moinuddin Ahmad (7th) 01 May 2006

"..........Me and my family are very sorrowful at the
passing of our beloved teacher. May Allah forgive them and grant them peace in
heaven......."
Salem Sekandar 01 May 2006

".........Yesterday was a black day for all Mariners of
Bangladesh. Though death is inevitable, yet this kind of sudden and total
bereavement is ever distressing. Mr. Nurul Amin was our mentor in the Marine
Academy. He influenced and shaped many of our lives, directly or indirectly.
He was always fair to his students and caring like a father. Amidst the harsh
environment that prevailed atop the hills of Juldia in those days, his
balanced approach to training and education was utterly unique. He had a
successful life, bringing up excellent family, seeing all his offspring attain
professional maturity, had toured around the world meeting his family and
students, doing all the social work that he could do. It was a life enviable.
I would hope that someone would make a biography of my beloved teacher one day
and I would read it and go back to my golden days in 1981-1983. MAY ALLAH TAKE
CARE OF THE DEPARTED SOULS......."
Golam Kibria (18th)

"Please pass this message to Mohiuddin Bhai(19th
Batch)......... I am deeply shocked and it is a tragic experience for you and
the family. Our last meeting at Singapore is still very fresh in my mind. I
know how hard it is to cope through this unusual heart-breaking experience and
your new job!!! Time only will help you to heal through this suffering and
pain. Our prayers are and will be with you at all times. May Allah rest their
souls in peace!!!.............."

".................Dear Iqbal, We are very sorry to hear the
extremely sad new about your father and mother. Your father our beloved
teacher was an extremely good person with good heart and love for all his
students. I will never forget how he helped me to secure scholarship from
Comilla foundation when I was junior cadet in Academy. Those memories are
still vivid to me. I can't believe time has passed so quickly. With sorry
heart we join with you in prayer to Allah. Please pass our condolences to your

".................This indeed is a great tragedy. I had the
opportunity to meet him when I visited the Marine Academy circa 84/85 in the
view of assessing the possibility of teaching. On the day Mr Nurul Amin was so
extremely cordial and was very kind to invite me to his residence where I
remember meeting Mrs Amin. Much that we lament for the great loss, it may
Allah's way to alleviate his sorrows for the loss of his wife. Few
names, such as Commdr Alavi, Capt Shah, and not the least Mr Nurul Islam, come
to one's mind when speaking about the Academy for their dedication and
commitment for the institution and building up the respect in the maritime
fraternity. I would like to join in conveying our condolences to the surviving
members of the family and at the same time pray for the departing souls.
A good person, a dedicated teacher and a pillar who upheld the interests of
the Academy for the benefit of generations to come. It is He Who brings
us in this world and it is in His Wishes that we depart......"

07-May-2006 MR. NURUL AMIN
It was a difficult few days for me. First I had to absorb the shock of sad
demise of Capt. M. L. Rahman and then within the next few days came the news
of the death of Mr Nurul Amin. True, we all have to leave this world but a few
leave behind memories not so easy to forget. I still remember the day in 1962
when we (the first batch) joined the Marine Academy to start a new history for
Pakistan and later for Bangladesh. When I joined as a Cadet, Mr Nurul Amin
joined as a teacher. Together we were the pioneers. Then in 1977 when I was
the Commandant of the Academy for a short period Mr Nurul Amin was still there
and this time as the Chief Education Officer. In Bangladesh today it is very
difficult to find an honest and sincere person. Mr Nurul Amin was one. He was
very dedicated to his job. Perhaps it was never his goal to make money or
fortune but it was definitely his goal to create a generation of people with
good education. I understand even after his retirement he rendered his
services on voluntary basis. I am fortunate in life to be one of his students.
He raised his children with good education and culture. His children have
reasons to feel proud of being the children of such a worthy father. I pray to
God so that his children can achieve more success in life to bring greater
glories for their late parents. May Allah rest his soul in peace and give us
the strength and determination to follow his teaching and ideology.

".............I regret to inform
you that ex-CEO of Marine Academy Mr Nurul Amin has passed away. As per
telephone call received last night, Mrs Nurul Amin passed away yesterday and
during her funeral, Mr Nurul Amin collapsed and expired. It was such a
sorrowful incident that both of them departed within 8 hours period. During my
brief teaching assignment in 1977 in the Academy, we were very closely
associated with Mr Nurul Amin's family and subsequently they used to visit us
whenever our ship called Chittagong. We maintained regular contacts and were
overwhelmed with their generous hospitality when we met them last in year
2000. We discussed good old Academy days and surprisingly, Mr Nurul Amin
remembered every name from 1st batch onwards and was aware of their
whereabouts. Last night we uncovered large number of family photographs and
went through vivid memory of this wonderful couple with heavy heart. They
brought up excellent children. May God rest their souls in
peace................"
