Capt.
M. L. Rahman
Expired 09
April 2006
[Click here to record your thoughts and emotions]

I met him in 1976-77, when he was P.O. MMD. His love towards Bangladesh & deep patriotism impressed me. He had embeded me with vision of a developed, happy & prosperious Bangladesh. With him, I accompanied to Ministry of Finance/ERD, Planning Comm, etc. despertely trying to get support for a modern light-house, work-out with a Deep-Sea Port connecting India/China/ Myanmar and making it a global-hub. In fact, he challenged a Member of the Planning Commission (Sr. bureaucrat) and told that Bangladesh could be a much better & developed Country than Korea or Singapore ! He was deeply pious man. May Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace and we can built a Nation that he has desired & believe-in. Ameen. Golam Moshi, Dhaka, 26 Jul 2008

"............I remember Capt. M L Rahman when I started my
marine career in Sept, 1975. He checked my eyesights. He also helped me to
sign on MV Banglar Sampad by calling Mr. Salauddin in Oct 1979. After 9 months
in Banglar Sampad I ventured out for pursuing a carrier in foreign companies.
One BSC official was trying to seize my CDC. I again sought the help of Capt.
M L Rahman who got my CDC returned to me. I pray for his departed soul. May

Mr Zillur Rahman &
Mr Saifur Rahman
Dear Zillur & Saifur
I was very sad to hear about the death of your illustrious father Captain M.
L. Rahman. I was so up-set that it took me quite some time to get to my normal
self to write this letter to you.
My personal association with Capt. Rahman dates back to 1960s that is well
before the liberation of Bangladesh. It was immediately after the liberation
of Bangladesh that I accompanied him to the Chittagong Circuit House to see
Professor Nurul Islam (I am not very sure about the name) who was sent to
Chittagong as the first regional administrator. Later we were joined by Mr
Kibria of Chitaagong Port Trust. We discussed about re-activating the port.
Capt. K. Mehbub (a Pakistani) played a very important role in removing some of
the wrecks. I think it was about 3-4 weeks after the liberation of Bangladesh
that there was an explosion (perhaps by a war mine) on a small coastal tanker
in the oil mooring. The tanker was blown into pieces but another coastal
tanker tied alongside caught fire and was drifting mid-stream. All the tugs
were pouring water to extinguish the fire not realising that it could sink
mid-stream and block the port. I was inspired by your father Capt. M. L.
Rahman to jump on the burning tanker to put the eye of the wire on the bits
and the burning tanker was successfully pushed and beached on the other side
of the river. Your father always respected law. As the first Principal Officer
of the Marine Department he set a path and tradition for people in the
maritime business to respect law and comply with legal requirements. We are
still following the same path set by your father. It is a great tribute to
him. Immediately after liberation he helped a number of jobless merchant
marine officers with jobs on foreign ships calling at Chittagong. His article
about the need and prospect of a deep-sea port for Bangladesh will probably
materialise one day but people should always remember the original author.
May Allah rest his soul in peace. We celebrate his life and achievements so
that it can inspire others.
Yours sincerely
