The discovery
of the killing field at Muslim Bazar has had an awakening effect
in all of us and especially the younger generation. What I have
experienced by the participation of all those who were born after
1971 have been an eye opener for me. Most of those who have come
forth in the actual work of excavation and exhuming and extended
their support in many ways belong to the generation either have
not seen the liberation struggle or they were very young at that
time. The Army personals that participated mostly belonged to that
generation. I was most impressed with the spirit, determination
and commitment they had to accomplish this work most diligently.
It reminded me of 1971 during the war when we all shared similar
spirit and dream of freedom. The Journalists who kept a vigilant
and made it possible for the world to know were also mostly younger
group. They didn't take this assignment just like any other beat
but as a proud citizen of a free nation wanting to become a part
of the 1971 spirit. The volunteers, visitors and well wishers mostly
belonged to this generation. It reaffirmed my faith in them and
if they are guided in the right direction we as a country can surely
hold our head up in the new millennium.
With the discovery of the mass grave it is important to explore
the various mechanism of legal and social redress. To improve the
psychological and emotional support system for the family long affected
by the loss of their dear and near ones and then non-action by any
group to address the issue of finding the truth.
It is hoped once the proper excavation and exhuming is completed
the society as a whole will be beneficial in many ways. 1. The history
can be put in the correct perspective with facts and figure 2. The
bereaved family will know the nation has paid its debt to those
who became victims of the war. 3. Some form of Justice through remembrance.
4. The unnatural division in the society can be narrowed down. 5.
Natural revelation to look forward. 6. Sustainable mechanism and
technical knowledge gained can be applied for Human Rights protections,
local justice system etc.
